FAQs
What is your typical process when starting to work with a new client?
At Azadi Law, we offer a first free telephonic appointment lasting 30 minutes, with one of our attorneys. After this, we will send a follow-up email to the potential client, providing additional information regarding their case and a price quote. If the client is interested in moving forward with the process, we will send a retainer contract and an invoice for the case deposit. Once we have been retained, we will send a list of necessary evidence for the client’s case, along with a questionnaire which will help us to prepare the client’s case. Throughout the time we are working on a case, we ensure to stay in regular contact with our clients and update them with any and all developments.
Describe a typical case for your firm. How long does it take to work on this?
Here at Azadi Law, we work with various different case types within the following categories: Immigration, Business, Real Estate and (simple) Divorce. Please see below for some examples of common cases our firm deals with, and the time it normally takes to prepare these.
To draft or revise a contract, to open/register a new company or to create a business plan, each of these processes takes approximately 2 weeks. To send off a family petition (immigration), to prepare a Residency via Marriage case, to prepare an asylum case, or to work on a simple divorce case (undisputed), each of these processes takes approximately 1 month. To prepare and file a work or business visa package, or a lawsuit, each of these processes takes approximately 2 months.
What questions should a client consider before consulting an attorney about his/her case?
A client should consider the following questions:
What is my goal and what is it that I want to achieve with this case, that my attorney can help me with? For example, to gain some sort of benefit, to get compensation, to stop somebody from doing something, etc.
How do I want to pay for legal services? Azadi Law offers fixed, flat-rate pricing for the majority of cases, instead of billable hours, to ensure a fair price.
What are my priorities when it comes to hiring an attorney? Cost, efficiency, customer service, etc.
I would prefer to handle my case in Spanish. Who can I count on in your law firm?
All the staff in our office are bilingual, with English and Spanish, so you can count on any of our attorneys or legal assistants to assist you. Some of our staff are even trilingual, speaking French and Persian!
Do you work on weekends or outside of business hours?
We are able to accommodate clients who are unavailable during regular business hours, to meet with them earlier in the morning, later in the afternoon and on Saturday mornings, by appointment only and scheduled in advance.
Describe the ways in which, and how often, your office tends to communicate with clients.
At Azadi Law, we ensure to communicate regularly with our clients; sometimes daily, normally weekly and at most bi-weekly, to update them with any and all developments. We are available by telephone, email and also on WhatsApp.
What do Immigration Officers look for when determining whether a marriage is fake?
Immigration Officers will tend to consider the following issues to be red flags: large age gaps between spouses, if the Alien spouse was previously out of status for a long time, if the couple got married very quickly after meeting, if the U.S. citizen spouse is unemployed or has been married more than 3 times, and if the Alien spouse is in the middle of deportation proceedings. USCIS has recently been much stricter with regards to this, doing more home visits, checking mobile phones at Green Card interviews, and checking bags at ports of entry.
